Kola NPP: 2009 Results Summed Up

The Kola NPP generated 1,115 mln kWh of power in December 2009. The total annual electric power output was 9,891.2 mln kWh.

The plant has supplied over 328,265.4 mln kWh to the country's power system since its first unit was commissioned.

The installed capacity utilization factor (ICUF) equaled 64.16 % in 2009.

As many as 85 projects for increasing the power units safety, in particular, reconstruction and modernization of systems and equipment, were introduced this year.

All requirements to the safe plant operation were strictly observed during 2009. No violations classified by the International Nuclear Event Scale have been recorded. The background radiation in the vicinity of the KNPP has remained unchanged and corresponds to the natural values.

 Presently, all four power units of the plant are in operation. In accordance with the dispatcher schedule, the plant's load is 1,433 MW.

In 2010, the enterprise personnel shall work to ensure generation of the target 10,671 mln kWh of power.

 The Kola NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern, OJSC. 100 percent of the Concern shares are owned by Atomenergoprom, OJSC. The plant is located 200 km south of Murmansk on the bank of Lake Imandra. Power Unit No.1 of the Kola NPP was launched in 1973. At present, 4 power units with VVER reactors 440 MW capacity each are in operation. Reactor type: VVER-440. The Kola NPP supplies electric power for the Murmansk Oblast and Karelia.
